Step 1: Rinse and soak

  • Rinse the rice with cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and prevents sticking. Soak for about 20 minutes.

Step 2: Prepare the steamer

  • Fill the bottom pot with water, making sure it does not touch the top basket. Bring to a gentle boil.
  • Place a piece of cheesecloth or banana leaf inside the steamer basket to prevent the grains from slipping

Step 3: Let the magic happen

  • Steam over medium heat for 25-30 minutes. Do not open the lid
  • Once cooked, leave covered for 5 minutes. Then gently fluff with a rice paddle or fork.

Step 4: Serve and enjoy

  • Spoon it into bowls while it’s warm. The result? Fluffy, delicious steamed rice that goes with just about anything.
